Taxidermy, skin and domes

Yesterday was London Art Fair day for me, had a thorough mooch on all the 3 floors with my good old mate from college Nina. Took a whole 5 hours to see all the Fair, 2 coffee breaks and necessitated a stiff drink afterwards.
above • Geza Szollosi • Fox • Taxidermy • Mauger Modern
in background • Pam Glew • Eden • Bleaching on fabric • Mauger Modern

I noted a leaning towards a more subtle pallet in the work on show. Much less shock & awe, more pastel and skin. London art Fair is on 19-23 January

Heres my highlights:

above • Martin C Herbst • Oil and Lacquer on steel ball • Mauger Modern

above • Tessa Farmer • Insects • Vitrines

above • Ione Rucquoi • Second Skin • Ultrachrone on alu-dibond • Bo-lee Gallery, Bath

above • Kelly Ratchford • Vanilla • Jill George Gallery

above • Valeria Nascimento • Pods • Porcelein • Woolf Gallery

Very nice day, although I nearly got into a shouting match with the mini-Hitler-jobsworth-security-nincompoop on the door as i didn't present him with a 'docket' for my purchase. I have a receipt, is that ok? No i am not going back up to the third floor for an f-ing docket. Can I now leave the building please? A strong drink was needed afterwards. You just cant get the staff these days. I recommend that the security men should watch an few episodes of Mary Queen of Shops.

Luminaries

My new show opens in Sydney, Australia, from 6th May until 22 May 2010.

With a new collection of work based on the Australian flag & Australian luminaries, the paintings are all intricately made from vintage denim, linen and cotton, with integrated portraits made using my bleaching technique. This show houses my most manipulated and detailed flag series, each flag is handmade and individual.

For my first show in the Southern hemisphere, the work will feature the UK’s favorite Australian sisters – Danni and Kylie Minogue. I also took inspiration from the Australian flag itself, with hints of astronomy and a star lit night sky. Each portrait could almost be a film still with an extraordinary luminance which seems to radiate or reflect light.

For more info on the opening night & the address which will be released nearer the opening date, please join mailing list at www.pamglew.co.uk or visit www.bickergallery.com

Noir

OK, So its 2009, its gonna be a good year,

First up is my London solo show titled 'Noir'

I'm the newest addition to the extraordinary and wonderful family of artists at Stella Dore Gallery and am busy working on my show 'Noir' which opens the evening of February 26th, so put that in your diary now....

The work in the show is an exploration of the cinematic imagery of Film Noir. More sophisticated and richer than the horror series, where as the women in the 'fear' work always seemed beautiful but scared, and were basically 'beautiful bait'..... victims....

Times have changed, and America has changed, I'm no longer looking at US as a country run by a loon, no Obama is now in control and I hope the biggest of hopes that he can sort out the can of worms he has inherited, I think he has an incredible job ahead, no one is perfect, and it will take time .. Now our attention is drawn to economy, the money system, banks, corruption and how very fragile our systems are. Corruption, crime, deviousness and winter have led me to watch a lot of Film noir. For it is the movie genre which is set in the darkest of underworlds, dens, gambling joints, seedy clubs, court rooms, its 1940-50s America in the post war era, yet Noir is a seductively delicious feast for the senses.

In quite a reversal, the women in Noir are bad girls; femme fatales, murderesses, adulturers, criminals, hussys.... you get the idea. Dark.

Brocade, flags, and some other surprises will comprise the show.. no more secrets

Check out the 'noir quote of the day' on the homepage:

My current favourite:
"I know you like a book, ya little tramp. You’d sell your own mother for a piece of fudge. But you’re smart with it. Smart enough to know when to sell and when to sit tight. You’ve got a great big dollar sign there where most women have a heart." The Killing (1956)

Embroideries in their frames & Kate framed

It was another Saturday hanging out in the Fairtrade gallery, im feeling like part of the furniture there now.....

I said bye bye to the Shroud of Paris & said hello to the nice chap who bought her, I was more than a little tongue tied trying to say who was in the image, the public either love 'her' or hate 'her', mostly the latter i guess, so I'm not about to admit it here :)

Also, the new Kate flag was picked up as Tim had made a cracking frame for her, super slick as ever, Kate's new owner also collected all the bounty of stuff bought from the show (cheers L!),

i like the way kate has an american flag reflected in her frame, (purely accidental) she did 'make it' in america after the coke story I guess

It feels a little bit sad to take down the show- but happily they are all finding new homes.....

********

Heres some pics I took of my new framed embroideries, they will soon be on the art-el site :

http://www.art-el.co.uk

this week its all about proofing my new screen print for Graffle, finishing 2 flags for the Graffle show, one is a 9 footer so it will take some time...... big is beautiful.
