The Foundry

Last week saw a great show at the Foundry- which is an urban/underground/ street/ call it what you will group show in a gritty yet cool bar..... good to put more faces to names - the show has a great mix of urban styles, The Krah, Snub, Rugman, Mr Gauky & Fors being some of my favs..

The Foundry has a weird massive turntable downstairs which begged to be 'surfed'- needless to say.. it got a bit messy as people wizzed round with beers, kinda like having a merry-go-round in a gallery
















This is a proper 'grass roots' show- of thats the right term, artists/ streetsters doing it for themselves, another nice touch was that mostly we knew eachother, which is strangely rare, and well, nice i guess.

This show is only up until Sunday- so go take a look, I had my eye on a few things which I'm kinda kicking myself that I didnt just buy when i was there.
I have this other flag upstairs by the piano called 'Key' which is ironic. Looks a tad more sinister than my previous flags: Approx. 141 x 80 cm Discharge, bleach & dye on vintage american flag.

... wow, just got back from the Graffle show opening night in London, its a diverse mix of work, all of the urban art inclination.....
This is my offering 'Drive by', Miss Hedren looking suitably iconic


and the piece to be auctioned called 'Daughter' which is a big one.

Inner Voices Group Show

I'm setting up an installation in a group show in Brighton this week..... Its a great mix of artists, Lotz (drawings), The Krah (graffiti) and Jim Sanders (who you may know from his other shows in Brighton, he also shows in the famous diamond that is Fair trade Gallery)

So we are all creating a 'space' within the gallery, kind of like our own world.. so its a great mix of installation based work, along with paintings, wall drawings, totem poles and my um....'den'.

Here's the flyer, it opens on Friday night and is open to the public from 19th July- 18 August

Cancer

The last few days have been a bit tough. Fathers day seems to have been on heat this year.

(Forgive me for I have sinned by ©opy®ight)

my dad died over 2 years ago from cancer,
oddly enough, i got a little inheritence which was the financial boost i needed to go self employed and get an art studio & start to take my work more seriously...... in reality it was a bitter/ sweet pill to swallow, loosing a father to such a desperately undignified illness was harsh, but on the flip side i suddenly had this near 'perfect' existence of being a full time artist.

It's weird how things can never be perfect, you take the rough with the smooth i guess ....

So I heard about Cancersell a few months ago and as it contained the "C" word, i ignored it, if i read about cancer i usually cry within about 30 seconds, seriously. I pulled myself together, jesus after 2 and a half years it should be ok to read about cancer without crumbling like a wet lettuce.so i read about it on the flickr group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/cancersell/

Embroideries in their frames & Kate framed

It was another Saturday hanging out in the Fairtrade gallery, im feeling like part of the furniture there now.....

I said bye bye to the Shroud of Paris & said hello to the nice chap who bought her, I was more than a little tongue tied trying to say who was in the image, the public either love 'her' or hate 'her', mostly the latter i guess, so I'm not about to admit it here :)

Also, the new Kate flag was picked up as Tim had made a cracking frame for her, super slick as ever, Kate's new owner also collected all the bounty of stuff bought from the show (cheers L!),


i like the way kate has an american flag reflected in her frame, (purely accidental) she did 'make it' in america after the coke story I guess

It feels a little bit sad to take down the show- but happily they are all finding new homes.....

Just looked on the Graffle site & noticed they have a list of all the artists taking part this year, the Village Underground is a great space, I will be making a massivo flag for it..... 2 metres ish..... big....

After the huge success of the first Graffle last xmas, GRAFFLE 2 is launching this summer.

GRAFFLE is a charity raffle of urban/street/graffiti art with all the money raised being donated to three children’s charities. 50 worldwide artists will each be donating a unique piece of original work, all of which will be raffled, with tickets costing just £10.

All the art will be on public show in London
(18th – 20th July at The Village Underground)

and Bristol (10th – 12th Sept at Paint Works) with the draw taking place in Bristol on 12th September.

This is a great charity project, with an amazing list of artists donating work and well worth supporting, plus you never know you may win something fantastic!

Kate - British Made

Just finished the new Kate commission today. I think I kinda like the scratchiness of her, I didnt want to make a drawing that was without personality - so its a bit scribbly and has a lot of dashes and dots..



This is on my very messy studio wall, my boyf calls my studio 'the dirty room' ....

I still like to use my lounge at home to sew flags. I live in a top floor flat and have a nice plane tree that at the mo is in full leaf bushiness and its something to look at when im bored from sewing, so I just really use my studio space (which is 2 roads away & a nice little walk past some coffee shops, grocers a gallery & a couple of delis) for messy inky and bleach work

Anyway, so Kate is done i reckon- I need to up the ante a bit and get some new work made for Graffle 2 (to donate & for their exhibition in London which is in July), also a show in Liberty Gallery in Kent, some new stuff needed for Art-el and also I'm soon to be on a few sites (Hip Art, The State of Art & also Beautful Crime), so screen prints are needed me thinks,
